About us:

We grow, process and sell organic, open-pollinated seed for the UK and develop new varieties through organic plant breeding, to support the collective work of those striving towards making agro-ecological farming and food sovereignty a reality.

In 2016 we bought Gosberton Bank Nursery in Lincolnshire, which had been largely abandoned for four years. Our 24-acre home, now nursed back to health thanks to the hard work of staff and a host of volunteers, includes over an acre of glasshouses with a rainwater-fed reservoir for irrigation, buildings for seed processing and storage, and housing for staff.

What you’ll learn

The seed coop is a unique opportunity to learn about seed growing.

We are a farm with field scale vegetable, herb and flower growing using a combination of tractor and hand tools.

We have over an acre under glass in three glass houses, where we grow seed crops, the glass houses extend the season and enable us to control the ripening and drying of the crops.

We are Demeter certified and we have our head grower who is a Biodynamic farmer with over 10 years experience with biodynamics

We sow, plant, maintain, select for seed production veg, then we harvest, dry, thresh, clean and process seed for sale.

Seed is appropriately stored then packed, orders are processed, packed and dispatched.

In the Seed Shop they pick and pack for orders from customers.

What we expect from the student

Some previous experience in farming, growing and gardening would be helpful.

An enthusiasm and willingness to work hard physically in the growing season between the hours of 8am and 4pm

We may ask you to work in the seed shop in the winter/spring sales season, therefore some competency in using computers picking and packing orders is good

A driving licence would be helpful, but not a barrier to employment if absent. We are in a rural location and it would be convenient to have and maintain a vehicle, or a decent bicycle.

Ability to work as a team and to work alone. Depending on the staff on a particular day you might be with others or not. We will need people who have a certain inner spark and self reliance to maintain their own momentum.
